Painting School
Professional artist Harinder Sahota is teaching two weekly classes from September 2026 – one oil painting class and one watercolour class. The classes are suitable for artists of all levels. For bookings please use the contact form or email Harinder to register your interest.

Professional artist Harinder Sahota is running a monthly 5-hour watercolour masterclass at Harrow Arts Centre for artists of all levels, focusing on colour mixing, brushwork, layering, and composition. Sessions are taught through a mix of demonstrations and 1:1 feedback. Classes are supportive, inspiring and encourage creativity and artistic growth.

OIL PAINTING
This welcoming class covers everything you need to begin your oil painting journey, from setting up your palette to a final painitng. We will explore the alla prima painting method, learning how to block in strong shapes and tonal values before refining your paintings. Ideal for complete beginners and those wishing to develop their existing skills.
Basic materials provided for the first session; however, participants will need to purchase their own supplies.

Still life inspired by impressionists
This class offers students a chance to explore light, colour, and expressive brushwork. Participants will study techniques used by impressionist experimenting with vibrant palettes and spontaneous strokes.

Portraits - capturing light
The focus is to explore techniques for capturing the beauty of light in portraiture. Through demonstations and your own practice, you will learn to observe subtle shifts in tone, transparency, and reflection.

Spring flowers
In this class, you will paint vibrant spring flowers, focusing on color harmony and brushwork. Participants experiment with wet-on-wet techniques to create freshness and movement, capturing the gentle light, texture, and vitality of flowers.

Reflections - shiny objects
Painting reflective objects in watercolour requires careful observation of light, colour, and surface. Use thin, transparent washes to build reflections gradually. Leave highlights untouched for brightness, and soften edges where reflections blur. Balance warm and cool tones to enhance realism and depth.

Loose and splashy birds
In this class, students paint loose, expressive birds using bold brushstrokes and fluid washes. The focus is on movement, spontaneity, and capturing character rather than detail. By embracing splashes, drips, and soft edges, participants learn to convey energy and freedom with this fluid medium.

Introduction to oil painting
This welcoming class covers all the essentials of oil painting techniques, from setting up your palette, demystifying solvents and color mixing to layering and creating depth – perfect for beginners and improvers alike. Paints, paper and solvents are all provided – you just need to bring along your own brushes and a palette.

Line and wash landscapes
Explores line and wash landscapes, combining expressive ink drawing with delicate watercolor tones. Students learn to sketch confidently, using pen and ink to define structure and texture. Transparent washes add atmosphere, color, and depth.
