Master studies
When the Louvre opened in 1793, it allowed artists to copy paintings from its wide collection. In fact, Cezanne once said “the Louvre is the book from which we all learn to read”. Many artists during that time learnt by copying from their teachers, before going on to develop their own style.

So I feel in very good company when, from time to time, I spend a few days studying the paintings of artists I admire, such as Velazquez, Sargent and Zorn.
